Programme Outline

Join us on Day 1 (23rd June) to hear about research from a variety of subject areas centred around the Value of Marine Artificial Structures (MAS).

• Session 1: Long-term effects of contaminants in sediments
• Session 2: Estimating biomass associated with structures
• Session 3: Social Attitudes to Marine Artificial Structures
• Session 4: Monitoring, Evidence and Innovation Surrounding Marine Artificial Structures and Decommissioning

On Day 2 (24th June) meet science/policy experts for talks, panel discussions and a workshop about sustainable management of Marine Artificial Structures, considering the value of biodiversity and nature associated with the structures, as well as the pressing issues relating to their future decommissioning…and beyond. Day 2 sessions include:

• Session 5: Can ecological values of MAS be considered for biodiversity conservation? Speakers: JNCC, The Rich North Sea, University of Edinburgh and Nature Scot.
• Session 6: How can we best decommission our MAS? Speakers: BP, NSTA and Eco-Effective strategies.

Workshop

The ‘Desired Decommissioning Outcomes in the North Sea’ workshop will take place on the second day of the conference, Tuesday 24th June, from 2pm to 4pm. The aim of the workshop is to identify decommissioning outcomes for Marine Artificial Structures that are desirable for the environment, economy and society.
